Wide open spaces...

You know how when you are driving along and clever things pop into your head and then 8 hours later when you are at a computer you can no longer remember these clever things? yeah...

So, we saw the Wall drug store. Spent a lot more time there than we had thought we would. That place is huge!

Then we went to Mount Rushmore. ... $10 for this?? When I saw it I said, "That's it?" then we went back down the road a little to the Cosmos Mystery Area. That was pretty cool. I left it feeling a little ooky though.

After that it was a crazy long drive which we took a little detour that probably added about an hour to the trip. Though we did get to drive by a town that was pop: 18
Yeah.
18.

they had a post office and a town hall and everything.

On our drive we saw prairie dogs and buffalo and antelopes.
Yeah, we saw the buffalo roam and the deer and the antelope play.

Also, jackalopes.

As soon as I organize my pictures, i'll put up an update in pictures. Yay for fun

Go west...

Well here we are. It has been nice to see my mother, brother, and father all in one day. That has not happened since I graduated.

Niagara Falls was an awesome site. I do like that they light up the falls at night and add a bit of color. On the other hand, I sometimes dislike that such awe inspiring sites are always surrounded by gaudy tourist instillation's and facilities that look to be fifty years old. How nice would it be to walk down a rough path and come out at the falls. No casinos or hotels towering over it or tourists mobbing in front of it. ahhh well...

Chicago was interesting to pass through. Like any major city it had very tall sky scrapers and is very congested. As we passed through, I could not help but feel a bit of anxiety. While seeing the city and area leading up to it is interesting and new, it is foreign. This is not your town or your area. It is fun to see new places but I do not wish to stay here.

Head west!

Fond du Pot

We just arrived about 40 minutes ago. It was pretty great to sit and pee and brush my teeth. The toilet did scare the shit out of me though. It flushes with extreme enthusiasm.

We got up this morning at 3am, got to Chris' mom's around 1130? (its in the notebook, which is on the desk which is much too far for me to put effort towards right now), had some potroast, then headed on our way to Chris' brother. His dad, brother, and us had dinner together, sat and chat for a bit, then a bit more outside by the cars. We were there a little too long, but it was interesting to chat with Chris' dad while Chris and his brother talked and goofed around. Chris' dad has done this sort of trip a few times, so he was giving some pointers and whatnot.

Even with our late departure from there, we still managed to get here just when I had it written down that we would arrive. Crazy!

It was a helluva dark and long road though, I'll tell ya...

12 hours to Wall, SD

Hold on to your butts...

This cannonball run Heather and I are about to embark on, is something many say they wish they could try at some point in their lives. When I was younger, I crossed this country with my family a number of times. In a more recent trip, I moved to Arizona and then back to Maine. No matter how many times I do it, It still amazes me how the land and people change. Their demeanor and accent make for a novel trip in and of themselves.

Our first destination will be my aunt and uncles home in North Adams, MA. From here it will be on to Niagara falls.
